New world music artist, Kanjia, has been added to the performance line-up for Friday's Taste of St. Louis Derrty Ent. Kickoff Concert, which will take place tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, 4 pm- 11 pm. Kanjia is scheduled to take the stage at 9 pm. Fresh off of his performances at The 2006 Global Mixx DJ Retreat (Chicago) and The 2006 Core DJ Retreat (Atlanta), Kanjia is set to showcase his unique sound, which fuses reggae, hip-hop, and dancehall.
About Kanjia
Kanjia was born on July 28th, in a small university town called Njala located in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Being raised in Africa has allowed Kanjia to see and experience a wide array of things in life, from seeing his country’s natural resources being exploited for political gains to having his family go into hiding due to a civil uprising. Going through this has allowed Kanjia to realize, “Just one life to live no fear to face no test”.
Kanjia moved from Sierra Leone to the United States in the fall of 1997. The moving to the U.S. was a culture shock at first due to fact that Kanjia was young in a new environment, but music provided him with an outlet, by writing about these new experiences. The events and experiences that Kanjia has faced are passed on through his music. Music is his way of making a statement.
Kanjia’s love for music has allowed him to develop into a very well rounded artist. It is a rarity that you can find an artist that can write (any genre of music); rap, sing, and arrange songs due to his knowledge of several musical instruments. Kanjia’s style is Regg-Hop a fusion of (Hip-Hop/ Reggae/ Dancehall). God has blessed him with a gift to get his message across to the masses SO MANY WAYS. With this ability Kanjia will be around the music industry for as long as people have the desire to hear music that touches their soul and to be entertained.
Kanjia has signed to a production deal with Basement Beats, the multi-platinum producers that brought the industry Nelly. With the combination of Kanjia’s style of music and their explosive production, Kanjia was able to become a highly skilled MC and writer.
Kanjia was involved in a live band called Audacity, which allowed him to explore the many genres of music and to perform and lead a band night after night, to sold out shows. The one thing fans love is the energy Kanjia brings to the stage and passes on to the crowd.
Kanjia has worked on numerous projects and shared the stage with various artists, both major as well as local. Some of the major acts consist of Chingy, Twista, Murphy Lee, Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz, Xzibit, Juvenile, and Three 6 Mafia.
